CCA National Safety Award 2023: Graham Honoured

March 14, 2024

The Canadian Construction Association (CCA) has honoured Graham with the prestigious 2023 CCA National Safety Award.

“We extend our gratitude to the CCA for recognizing our advancements in safety and our culture of safety—we take immense pride in our achievements in this area, bringing us a profound sense of accomplishment,” said Mike Court, Senior Vice President of Health Safety Environment Quality and Sustainability. “With committed and courageous leadership driving our culture which drives behaviors translates into high-performance teams.”

Graham prioritizes an integrated management system approach concerning Health and Safety, Environment, and Quality. We support industry-leading prevention of serious injuries and fatalities (SIF) through initiatives like the Hurt and Energy model, the Construction Safety Research Alliance research (as founding members), our Actively Caring culture initiative, and Human and Organizational Performance (HOP) principles.

The Hurt and Energy model focuses on high-energy release hazard identification and assessment of direct controls to fail-safe. Our potential energy calculation tool removes ambiguity and personal bias from the equation of actual and potential severity.

We are proud of our many successes, including an 85% improvement in lost time incidents and a 95% improvement in severity, with over 23 million hours and 18 months between our one lost-time incident in 2021 and our one lost-time incident in 2023.

Mental health is also a significant safety focus for us. Graham has supported and participated in CSRA’s research project Mental Health in Construction, deployed The Working Mind, headversity, and our Actively Caring training, all of which provide the necessary tools and skills for the frontline.

Graham believes that we can eliminate SIF events with our industry-leading safety processes, backed by defensible science. We will continue to lead by way of new initiatives and continuous improvement efforts.

We invite you to watch the 2023 CCA National Safety Award video featuring Graham initiatives.
