Last week we proudly partnered with the Stollery Children’s Hospital Foundation for the third consecutive year to host its 25th annual Corus Radiothon to raise funds for programs, research and vital specialized equipment at the Stollery Children’s Hospital.

Graham’s very own, Matthew Milette, Estimator in Edmonton helped co-host the radio show on CISN Country 103.9 to encourage listeners to donate to the cause. He was also joined by five employees who volunteered at the phone banks to take pledges from listeners.

In total, the Radiothon raised a record-breaking $1.95 million for the Stollery Children’s Hospital – including a $10,000 donation from Graham!

We’re proud to support organizations like the Stollery Children’s Hospital Foundation and give back to the communities where we live and build.

About the Stollery Children’s Hospital Foundation

On November 28, we proudly sponsored Calgary Meals on Wheels (CMOW) – Giving Tuesday for the fifth consecutive year, and matched day-of donations up to $10,000.

We’re excited to announce that this year, we were able to help CMOW surpass their goal and raise $37,150 in a single day in support of its mission to deliver nutritious, reliable and accessible food to Calgarians. Thanks to the incredible generosity of the community, the money raised on Giving Tuesday alone will help CMOW provide almost 7,000 meals to their clients!

In true “Graham Cares” spirit, our support didn’t stop there – twenty-three volunteers from our Calgary offices spent the day loading up Graham trucks and delivering meals to CMOW clients all over the city.

We’re committed to building stronger communities where we live and work, and are honoured to partner with organizations like CMOW to make a positive impact.

In 2019, Graham and five other founding members created the Construction Safety Research Alliance (CSRA). Today, the CSRA has close to 100 member construction companies that employ over 1 million workers across 170 countries. The alliance aims to eliminate serious injuries and fatalities in the construction industry by bringing together industry leaders and academia to conduct transformative research and defendable science.

Brian Polis, Graham’s Senior Director of Health, Safety and Environment (HSE) was recently awarded the Safety Leadership Award by the CSRA at this year’s annual Safety Summit. This award recognizes individuals who have exhibited leadership in supporting the CSRA Research Teams and industry outreach supporting the CSRA.

Mike Court, the Senior Vice President of Health Safety Environment Quality and Sustainability at Graham and Chair of the Board at CSRA, presented Brian with this award.

“We are excited to see our employees take the lead in important areas of HSE in the construction Industry. By acknowledging the contributions of safety leaders like Brian, the CSRA is delivering transformative research in preventing SIF’s in the Construction Industry. Congratulations to Brian for his courageous leadership and support to Graham and the CSRA,” said Mike Court.

For the fourth consecutive year, Graham employees from each of our operating locations participated in One Walk, an event that encourages physical activity in support of mental and physical health, while giving back to our communities. For every employee who participated, Graham donated $50 to that employee’s local food bank.

In total, 862 employees participated in the event this year. Together, with some locations choosing to top-up their contribution, we donated $50,000 to food banks across North America. On average, the demand for local food banks has increased nearly 50 per cent from last year. With inflation and cost of living rising, our local food banks need our support now more than ever.

One Walk 2023 was an even bigger success than the past three years, making an even bigger impact. We are proud to continue supporting the communities where we live and work.

The Muse Whiskey and Coffee Bar

Location: Everett, WA

The Muse Whiskey Bar is a remarkable rehabilitation project at the Port of Everett, Washington. This historic renovation spans 6,345 sf, and is filled with original millwork and craftsmanship. This iconic historic building has been transformed into a destination that blends nostalgia and modernity.

The project included a full interior renovation with new finishes, ensuring accessibility with a wheelchair lift and enhancing safety with an automatic sprinkler system. Externally, a deck with a waterfront view was added, as was an inviting entry stairway, and upgraded site electrical and utilities.

Originally designed by Carl Gould and built in 1923, the Gothic-style structure, known as the Weyerhaeuser Building, served as the timber company’s administration office. After being relocated three times, it has found its final home at the Port’s Boxcar Park.

Green Line LRT Calgary (YYC)

Location: Calgary, AB

This project is part of the early works for the Green Line LRT Phase 1 Project in Calgary, AB, the largest infrastructure investment in the city’s history. Before building the Ogden LRT station and tracks, the 78 Avenue Project will complete a grade separation and vehicle and pedestrian tunnels under the Canadian Pacific Kansas City (CPKC) railway corridor to enhance mobility and pedestrian safety for the future station area and make way for main construction.

THE SELECTION OF GRAHAM

The City of Calgary (Green Line LRT Program) stated in their press release that “…Graham brings its extensive experience from major infrastructure projects across North America to the Green Line LRT Project.”

GRAHAM’S SCOPE

As General Contractor, Graham will construct a railway overpass or a grade separation structure at 78 Avenue S.E. allowing an extension of 78 Avenue SE underneath the CPKC mainline. This will enable vehicular traffic to access the industrial area east of the CPKC right-of-way. Following the opening of the 78 Avenue SE CPKC overpass to the public, the at-grade crossing at 69 Avenue S.E. will be closed permanently. The other component of this project is to construct a Pedestrian Tunnel from the future Ogden station to the east side of the CPKC right-of-way and Ogden Dale Rd S.E. With approximately 26 trains per day operating on CPKC’s main line, this complex enabling works project will reduce project and schedule risk as Green Line prepares for main LRT construction.

Associated work includes new storm sewer connections (catch basins and sewers) to the existing storm sewer system along Ogden Road S.E. and 78 Avenue S.E. In addition, a concrete storm duct is proposed on the east side of Ogden Dale Road S.E. to support the new road works. Additionally, updated street lighting and associated electrical infrastructure along 78 Avenue S.E. will be undertaken, as well as installation of new street lighting and electrical infrastructure along Ogden Dale Road S.E. Landscaping of disturbed areas including the planting of new trees and vegetation will also be completed.

ABOUT THE GREEN LINE LRT

The Green Line is The City of Calgary’s next light rail transit (LRT) line and largest infrastructure investment in our city’s history. With $5.5 billion in funding commitments from the Government of Canada, Government of Alberta and City of Calgary, the approved Stage 1 alignment is ready for construction beginning with the first phase from Shepard to Eau Claire.

SIA Felts Field Mamer Clock Tower

Location: Spokane, WA

The refurbishment of the historic Mamer Clock Tower at Felts Field posed unique challenges due to its location and the need to maintain public access. The project required careful planning and coordination to ensure the smooth operation of the adjacent Skyway Café and Aero Center Commercial terminal.

One of the key considerations during the project was the proximity of the clock tower to the active taxiway and the Airside Operations area. The project team had to work closely with airport authorities to ensure that their activities on the north side of the tower did not disrupt ongoing operations or compromise safety.

Additionally, the jobsite office or connex, where the project team was based, was situated near the main entrance. This location allowed for convenient access and served as a central hub for managing the project.
